Fabric is attached to skeletal structure as a single or double-sided skin with adjustable depth to cater to programmatic changes. The wall system can flatten itself to accommodate events where images will be projected via the adaptable spikes, or thicken to create a shadowing effect.

component [pre midterm]

catalogue_revA series of investigations were made through varying the parameters of a component in order to bridge the surface area of both the interior and the exterior soft scape of the skeletal structure in order to modulate light, sound, and air within the bandshell. The objective is to achieve a spatial condition within the actual component to alter throughout different programmatic pockets of space. Though these modules  become quite complex as they begin to differentiate, the rigid structural grid remains constant making it a bit more tangible. Several studies to follow.

Phillips Pavillion

picture2

Picture 1

Le Corbusier’ “Poeme Electronique” hosted a futuristic multimedia display featuring images, colored lighting and music and sounds. The pavillion ideas and the acoustical requirements were carried out through a system of precast concrete panels hung in tension from wire cables. Because hyperbolic parabaloids are generated by straight lines, the method of using precast panels was easy to implement. The music also had a spatial dimension, in that different sound sequences were directed out of one of the hundreds of speakers that were mounted on the pavilion walls. The effect was a sense of ‘moving music’ where sounds would whisk across the space in a manner that would enhance the rising and falling aspects of the composition itself.
